This
carpet from Sanxi was woven to hang from a pillar in a temple
or a noble person's home. The crane, loin and lotus motif
symbolizes the harmony of heaven and Earth. The bottom of
the carpet also depicts an incense burner and teapot. The
blue color indicates that it was intended for use by a noble
family. The carpet is meant to emote tranquility and the contemplation
of life. Cotton warp and weft, asymmetrical woolen knots all
vegetable dyed. There are two small skillful repairs on the
field.
