This
rug was woven in Baotao in Inner Mongolia but
used in a Tibetan family, It is classic Tibetan
designs. The rug has a single central medallion
with an excellent red shou which is the symbol
of long life. The field has Many belak, or "footprint
of the frog" designs, which resembles the
outline of a small pine tree. The field corners
have an interesting sytilzed geometric design
surrounded by a classic double key meander design.
The border is a very unsual series of different
happy wheels which are objects used by Tibetan
monks to offer prayers. The blue colour indicates
that the rug was woven for a noble family. Cotton
warp and weft , asymmetrical woollen knots in
a good condition. All vegetable dyed.
