Tibetan Antique"Temple Runner" Rug P72

This is a Tibetan temple runner with a very old and highly religious series of symbols. The outer medallions are modified mandala (a Tibetan religious implement). The very unusual inner medallions form discs filled with lotus flower designs. The single center medallion is a "shou", which is the symbol for long life. The corner designs are highly geometric and come from designs found on ancient Chinese bronze vessels. The border consists of a very old and special cloud design that is rarely seen. Wool warp and weft, asymmetrical tibetan woollen knots. All vegetable dyed. There are two small skillful repairs on it.
