The
rug features a single central medallion in a
geometric design that is reminiscent of a double
dorjee (a male symbol). The field also contains
two each of lotuses, peonies and chrysanthemums
in a mirror pattern. The interesting corner
designs are taken from decorations found on
ancient Chinese bronze wine vessels. The inner
border is a square pattern surrounded by half
flowers. The outer border is a modified flyfot
pattern symbolizing the sun. The blue colour
indicates that this carpet was made for a noble
family. Cotton warp and weft, asymmetrical woollen
knots. All vegetable dyed. In a very good condition.
