This is a classic Baotou sleeping carpet
from Inner Mongolian. A single central medallion
of stylized flower design with small flyfots
is flanked on each side by lovely lotus flowers.
Buddhists believe that the lotus is the holiest
of all flowers. The corner designs are more
examples of lotus leaves. The carepet has a
classic flyfot border which symbolizes the sun.
The blue colour indicates that this carpet was
woven for a noble family. Cotton warp and weft,
asymmetrical woolen knots in a very good condition.
All vegetable dyed.
