This carpet features a single central
medallion in a sytlized geometric pattern on
a field of many small flowers linked by a geometric
latticework. The corner designs are typical
of designs found on ancient Chinese bronze wine
vessels and each includes a small flyfot. The
inner border is a garland of shell. The outer
border is a typical flyfot pattern with an unusual
meander at each end. Flyfots symbolize the sun.
This carpet was probably woven for a rich or
noble family. Cotton warp and weft, asymmetrical
woolen knots, All vegetable dyed.
