This
very interesting geometric carpet from Baotao in inner Mongolia
has an abstract, yet linear pattern that evokes a subtle tiger
design at its thinnest aspect. The carpet was woven for a
"kang" which is a heated platform of brick tiles
at one end of a room and was used in the same manner as a
European tiled stove. Equipped with heating channels, it was
fired directly from inside the room with the hot air keeping
it warm during the winter. At night the kang was covered with
carpets and pillows and used as a bed. The field`s colors
are pleasant earth tones and the border is a solid navy blue.
Cotton warp and weft,There is one repair on the center.Asymmetrical
woollen knots and all vegetable dyed.
